Artist Statement

My name is Carlos Acevedo, I started college majoring in sociology, because based on the description it looked interesting. After having 101 it was a drag and I was basically forced to major in medicine because my family believes either that or law are stable careers and make "good money".

After constantly struggling in those tough science classes I decided to stop it and major in film. This came out of nowhere completely. I had never thought about it in my life except for being a photographer for eight years. I absolutely loved my prerequisites and I passed with flying colors, which never happens. So I knew I found what I loved and I felt like I had a knack for it no matter what area in film I did. My goal in film is to be an indie filmmaker outside of Hollywood which to me is more of a business than art. I just want to tell good stories and travel the world. I believe that in this country you can have multiple dreams. Another dream of mine is to serve in the military.

I am still pondering that decision because of my schedule and it will change my life and would break me out of my comfort zone, but that is what life is about and how you grow. What I love about film and my goal for it is to convey emotion in story telling, the power to make people emotional. I believe that is a big part in success I the business world right next to well crafted stories. I happen to do my own films outside of school and I love to write, I think my scripts are well put together and enjoy getting my work out there, but all in all I think I can do my best work when I am the camera man. I feel that I am able to capture angles and stability of shots that makes the film smooth.
